And the Living is Easy

I am filling my days with a crazy amount of stuff! I don't know how else to describe it. It seems each day goes by and something fun or poignant has happened. Nothing earth shattering, but to me, something to remember. My hubby had a great idea, he said I should keep a list of each day and what I have done, so that I can look back at the end of the summer and see what I did. So into my journal is just a sentence or two describing my day. It is fun! One day actually says, "Mopped my floors today and saw chickens wandering about someone's lawn, on my walk with my oldest girl." :)

Celebrated Father's Day with my gang. We had a very easy indoor picnic with a lot of yummy foods from a wonderful deli. Easy peasy for me and so tasty! I think I just may fall back on them from now on. I am in love with Pistachio Salad!

We love getting together and before you knew it, 4 hours had gone by and we still didn't want it to end.

Hubby loved all his gifts and the most special was from his girls, tickets to see Paul Simon in concert here in town. As my girls put it, they are "songs from their childhood". When we used to travel with them in the RV, we would play all his songs and they loved it. To see him in person was a huge treat. The man is 75! And he sang for 2 hours. Gives me hope for old age....LOL

Doing some yard saling and finding treasures. The Donald Duck bank and the Roy Rogers alarm clock, are the latest acquisitions.

I am now getting ready for my get-away. A week on the coast of Oregon. Gazing out to sea with a fruity cocktail in hand and the book The Swiss Family Robinson. I love to read books with a sea theme to them. Just seems fitting. :) Later. Always, Kit

First Week Off

Ahhh, what can I tell you. It has been so delightful. Here I sit on a Friday, sipping my second cup of coffee at 10:51 no less. No hurry. I am at my leisure. And I like it. I have kept myself busy and mainly employed with getting my flowers potted up for the backyard and patio. I try and pick a day when it is cool but sunny and when I have the place all to myself. I pop in my favorite "potting up flowers CD" (a great bunch of tunes from the The Explorers Club) and as the music fills my backyard, I start creating.

I try and keep my pots all cohesive and matching.  I like symmetry. All my containers are terracotta color and I find that keeps from detracting from the flowers. I found all the pinks and yellows that I wanted, tho I had to dig through some very large marigolds to find my short ones and it was worth the wet and muddy belly...lol I like how they came out. I will take more pics when they have filled out more and are in their places around the yard.

On the kitchen redo. I am pretty much finished and so pleased to see my vision come out how I imagined. You know, sometimes these things do not work out the way we want them too...lol We did have a slight problem with the door overlays. The plastic was heavy enough to bow out from gravity so hubby came to the rescue and we just had to add more support plugs to the fronts.Ta da! I like the cleaner look and I still have my beloved Rooster and Roses taking center stage.

Well, that is it for now. I am off for a walking date with my oldest and later it is back outside to do some weeding. I need to take advantage of this rainy cool day. Later. Always, Kit

Summer Vacation!

It is finally here! And it was starting to feel like it was taking it's sweet time. I was getting so tired of waking to the alarm clock. So this morn, I woke late, minus the beeping and took my time. Ate a big bowl of cream of wheat with blueberries and leisurely sipped my cup of coffee. That's what I'm talking about. :) Hubby and I went out yard saling, and though the pickins' were slim, I did manage to snag a needlework and a Willow Tree figure from an estate sale. The girl told me her grandmother had done the piece and I told her it would have a good home.

It is a rainy one here today, so I will work in the house. Just doing a few chores and some organizing. It was a hectic week with closing down my kitchen and my head is still a bit frazzled. We finished the last day with a going away party for our counselor. She has been there at my school for 16 years and that is just part of her career. I will miss her, she is a kindred spirit.

The other day, my youngest and I picked up the summer flowers. Always a favorite trip for me. We make our lists and just hope that they have exactly what we want. And they did! This year's plan for me is lots of pink geraniums, yellow marigolds, pink begonias and pink impatiens and sweet potato vine and coleus. I find those colors go well with all the red in my yard (fence and house). I pick a cloudy day when I have the place all to myself, and start potting up. That should be this Monday. Below are some of the bowling balls that I decorate my yard with. :)

One of my favorite past times is watching my Hellgate Ospreys. They are a family of birds who come back every spring and via a cam, I am able to follow their journey from laying eggs, hatching and fledging. Iris and Louis are great parents and we just had the final egg hatch this morn. Here is a link if you are interested to drop in. http://cams.allaboutbirds.org/channel/27/Hellgate_Ospreys/
Well, it look like it is clearing, so I will try and dash outside for a bit. Always, Kit

Goings On

Whew! May has been a busy month. It seemed like each week brought something new to do or plan. Right after my oldest's birthday, she had long awaited and much wanted surgery on her back. She had a problem with a joint in her hip and it needed to be fused. She came thru it wonderfully and is healing nicely. She has about a 6 week recoup time, and we are all spoiling her completely. I head to her house a couple times a week and we do the required walking. Good for both of us and we can catch up on some great chatting. :)

I celebrated my 62nd birthday with a Pusheen theme. Do you know Pusheen? I just love the little stickers that I can add to my Messenger messages to my girls. Both my youngest and I have a Pusheen look-alike cat, so that is probably why I am a big fan. We had a blast, of course! And the gourmet cupcakes (made by Renee's Cupcake Obsession) were awesome!

Off to the tattoo parlor I went......... to advise and give moral support to my youngest. She was getting a new tattoo to honor her sister. They both have this thing where they see letters and numbers as colors (it is called Synesthesia, google it). So she had my oldest's name tattooed on her arm in a color block. It came out pretty cool and her sister was so touched. It was a nice birthday present.

I was one lucky camper when I got 5 days off to celebrate Memorial Day. I didn't camp, though for once the weather in Montana would have been great for it but I did spend a lot of time outside working in my gardens. Headed to the St. Regis Flea Market and found a couple of treasures. A new metal toy truck and a vintage Christmas tree stand (I use them to hold up my garden bowling ball collection....LOL) Lawn Marbles! Watched the Indy 500, a favorite race of mine. I love everything about it and was thrilled for Takuma Sato! Finally he got the big Indy win.

So there you have it. Now I am entering my last week of school and the closing down of the kitchen. We had graduation at Willard last Thursday and it is always so bittersweet to see them all go. I miss them so much, but am excited for their futures. Well, my yard will never get trimmed if I keep typing. Bye. Always, Kit
