Looking back on the Season

It was all so wonderful. Every day seemed to bring Something new. Something fun, Something different. And that strikes me strange each year, because I basically follow the same recipe. Decorate, tree up, cards out, etc. I felt like I absorbed the lights, scents, and music totally. The gifts were thoughtful and special and the company I kept, the best in the world.  I didn't get to Jan 1st thinking, "where did the season go?" It was full, and fun but I am also ready for it to be put away. Once the holiday is over, the decorations just look wrong. And what once looked beautiful, takes on a garish side. Besides, my January decor is demanding to be brought out and have it's month of shining. :)  I love the bare, simple look at this time of the year. Lots of icy blues, and browns. January is calming and soothing after all the crazy fun of December. It is probably my favorite month of the year. I do not schedule anything for this month and I just cocoon myself in the winter and relish it. I am in no hurry for spring or summer. They will have their turn to thrill me. For now it is January's time to shine. Always, Kit

On to Christmas!

Up early and sipping a cup of very hot tea. I have all my lights on, hubby is still sleeping and the yard is covered in fluffy white snow. Love it! These next few days are my favorite. As my lists get smaller, I see the fruits of my labor, and I am pleased. I keep getting those squeally excited feelings deep down and they make me feel like I am a kid again. Such fun! Today I am coating anything I can find in chocolate (but mostly peanut butter crackers and pretzels) and finishing up the wine bottles for my hubby's managers. This year there are 16 of them, so that was a lot of gift bags, jingle bells and Merlot. It is a nice time of the year to say thank you to them all. We really couldn't do it without them. :) Okay, time to run. Hope everyone is enjoying their day and I hope you are getting that squeally feeling. :) Always, Kit

Our tree this year!

Did you see? Someone added a few folks to my little village. I see the Abominable and Rudolf visiting today.

Pretty bags for the ladies, candy canes for the dudes.

My girls at an ice skating birthday party for the girl on the very right.

A Calm and Lovely Moment

I am sitting here sipping mulled cider, having a couple of spritz cookies and yes, it is also softly snowing. Sounds like a Hallmark channel moment doesn't it?...LOL  Plus Mr. Christmas, Andy Williams is serenading me with, The Christmas Song. Now I have a hankering for some chestnuts. :) It has been a very busy week, filled with a gift exchange, spending the day with my youngest (she had her braces finally removed after a mouth ordeal of 5 years), my husbands company Christmas party and today was my last day of work for the season. Lots of events and all fun, but tiring. So I need this quiet moment to just sit and enjoy and think about all the wonderful things that happen during the holiday. I have been having so much fun! And when my hubby said he didn't think he had gotten enough presents for me, I easily answered that I didn't need anymore presents cause I have been getting them all month long. Not meaning the kind wrapped in boxes and paper. The kind that involves events, new memories and time with my children. The best kind. :) Always, Kit

I'm Ready!

Well, you probably know what I have been up to since my last post. I have been decorating! It involves many boxes full of treasures, lots of Christmas music and energy via Christmas cookies and Mulled Cider. A lot of folks look on it as work, but I consider it part of my "holiday experience" as I unwrap and visit with each item. My oldest items are two plastic poinsettia flowers, as a child they were always in a pewter vase when I was growing up. Now they come out each year and are tucked into one of my plants. From the early days of my marriage we purchased two very fancy garlands, on clearance of course, and they are one of the first things up and the last to come down each year. My vintage Christmas beverage glasses that I found at an estate sale for a song are a dream! We will use them tonight when we decorate the tree. Lots of odds and ends, but they all tell a story. :) And they add up to a happy holiday for me and my family. It is my pleasure to bring them out each year for a month, to let them shine and shimmer. And it is worth the time spent and the aching back for sure.
 Always, Kit
