Okay, so it's not Stars Hollow....

But it is the closest Em and I were going to get to an actual place from our beloved show the Gilmore Girls. Did you know that Chilton Academy (where Rory went to private school) was actually filmed at the Greystone Mansion in LA? It was! And we got to visit it. I was super stoked and even with it being a gazillion degrees outside, we wandered the lovely grounds and took in the lovely gardens and the views of downtown LA. We could just imagine Lorelai pulling up in her Jeep ready to whisk Rory off to the next adventure.

Then it was back home to Anaheim, we wished Beverly Hills good-bye with a visit to Koreatown for a burger and fries. Pointed our "7Chix" into the mass of crawling cars and settled in for the 2 hour drive back. Seriously, how do the locals do it? How do they handle grid lock like that on a daily basis? But we had our tunes, our funky beaded jewelry (my side joke about expensive sparklies) and air conditioning. And of course each other to keep our mood high and our smiles big. Always, Kit

"So they loaded up the car and they drove to Beverly. Hills that is...."

Swimming pools, movie stars. Well, we didn't see any stars, but we had a wonderful time. The last time we went to Cally, we got to Rodeo Drive a little too late to shop, but we had fun window shopping. This time, I had a surprise up my sleeve. More later. But first, I have to admit something. I would like to say that when I watch TV, I only watch PBS and only use my cable for the music channels but....I have a guilty pleasure. I watch The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills. Yes, it is true. I must say I get a kick out of all the parties they go to and "how they live" with money and status and botox. I would never want to live like that, but I like to peek over the fence now and again. Sooo, when we needed a place to eat lunch, Em searched out the restaurant of Lisa Vanderpump, Villa Blanca and found it! And we got in and it was lovely.  I felt like such a celebrity sitting there amongst the pearls and suits. And I had the crab and lobster salad and it was great. On the way to the restaurant we passed another housewives business, Kyle. A lovely dress shop. :)

On to Rodeo Drive. First stop, the Beverly Wilshire Hotel. Such a lovely place and they let you come in and wander around snapping pics. So friendly. And of course you can't help thinking of the movie, Pretty Woman. Our first store was Tiffany and Co. Em and I started browsing but little did she know, I was looking for a particular item. I had done my homework and knew they sold a lovely heart shaped charm necklace that said, "please return to Tiffanys". She knew something was up when I motioned to a clerk that I needed to see something in the case. Oh my, did Em get excited. She couldn't believe it! We both got matching necklaces and they wrapped them up in the iconic baby blue box with white ribbon and the matching little blue bag. As I told my girl, everyone should get a little blue bag at least once in their life. And everyone should be able to see that look of surprise and delight on a daughter's face.

We wandered the stores; Prada, Armani, Jimmy Choo, Michael Kors and marveled at the items. Wow! We saw expensive cars; a Bugati! Lots of flowers and many tourists. It was a treat to see how the other side lives, and we could pretend for a little bit with our little blue bag dangling from our fingertips. :) Always, Kit

(Villa Blanca. Me pretending to be the elite...LOL. Santa Monica Blvd. and yes I sang the song and drove Em crazy. Kyle's dress shop. The road that leads to the Hollywood sign. Beverly Hills!)

(We are smiling cause we love Tiffany's. Ready to strut our stuff. The iconic steps. A Bugati!  Lots of flowers. Ta da, I am here.)

(Lovelier than any star. Beverly Wilshire. Prada shoes. Jewelry store in the hotel. What a great clothing line. Look! I am sitting in Prada!)

California Dreamin' with my Youngest

Long about April, I had a thought. I knew my youngest girl's main squeeze would be leaving shortly for a job in China. Gone for 8 months. Knew that she needed something to keep her mind off the fact. It was also about time for a girl escape for me. Last year had been rough and I wanted to kick my heels up. Or in this case, put some Mickey Ears on. We left for a fun filled week in California on July 21st. It had 4 different aspects to it, so I will have to tell it in sections. Way too many pics to post in one fell swoop! This first post will be all things Disney. We both are Disney Geeks and proud to say it. I love Cinderella, she loves the Little Mermaid. The first ride has got to be Mr. Toad's Wild Ride, and the Teacups have to be ridden in the dark. At some point I need to have a Dole Whip, and lunch must be eaten at the Blue Bayou, where you can pretend it is not 100 degrees outside, but a lovely summer evening with twinkly fireflys. You can get your hair done at Studio 365 and sparkle with glitter all day long and then watch Tinkerbell fly through the air and you just know she is real. The place is magic and I will never tire of it. Nor will I tire of watching my daughter enjoy it just as much as I do. Kindred spirits. :) Always, Kit

(clockwise: At the airport eager to get going, on the plane we are wearing our ears and sipping our cocktails, Em surprised me with a Best Friends bracelet for the both of us. Mine came in a Cinderella jewelry box, outside Sleeping Beauty's castle, eating at the Rainforest Cafe, our lovely hotel room.)

(Em enjoying one of many beignets we bought, Em with her hairdo and stylist, Studio 365, my do and my stylist, we got some amazing looks that day which made it fun, Little Mermaid ride, our go to ride when it got too hot outside, the Jungle Cruise.)

(Cars Land Racers, California Screamin', I just love this roller coaster, riding the King Triton Carrousel, Em loving the "cow" tractor, my princess for the day waiting outside the show Aladdin, the Lagoon.)

(teacups in the dark, the Rainforest Cafe, Fantasmic show, my all time favorite, World of Color, water and light show, the castle at night, Blue Bayou for lunch)

(California Screamin', and I sure did. Main Street USA, a Mouse in a Gas House, Tiana meet and greet in New Orleans Square, Em's fav ride, the Grizzly Water Rafts, a happy selfie)

(Such lovely gardens everywhere, rockin' the crown, Cars Land, the Haunted Mansion, Oswalds!, my new hoodie! Yep, I bought this to wear come winter....LOL)

(Feeling happy, a parade, Pirates!, Mickey shaped beignets, the back of the castle as we wait to ride Peter Pan, you gotta love the Dumbo ride.)

And to continue the themes, A Mickey Mouse Birthday!

My youngest turned 29 today and in keeping with our "birthday trip to Disneyland and places Cally" themes, I chose Mickey Mouse for her. She loved it and it was such fun to decorate and find things to surprise her with. Mickey pails, Mickey hats, Mickey toys and a Mickey cake. This girl loves a few presents and she was surprised with some pretty bangles from Oregon, a Little Mermaid beach towel (for when we hit Huntington Beach), a new lunch box and New Orleans mask from her sis, and a little bit of birthday cash. But the biggest surprise was a gift from her boyfriend (who is currently working in China) of a Barbie doll who is Chinese! She loved it and was so thrilled since he couldn't be here for the event. Lots of tears were shed, happy tears. :) We spent the evening with cake and playing games and chatting. A wonderful birthday for sure. Always, Kit

The birthday girl has arrived!

Silver bracelets from her fav store in Oregon; Bon Jour!
