Part of the fun is the traveling to get there. Crossing over from Washington to Oregon is always an exciting moment. Heading down into the Gorge, going from dry brown rock formations to lush green is a welcome scene, as is Mt. Hood rising above the roadway. We always stop at a lovely eatery in Hood River for dinner and then on to our hotel with view of the river and the Steernwheeler!
Always the first stop on our list is Kyllo's restaurant in Lincoln City, Or. where we get our first taste of fresh seafood and a view to the ocean. We always toast each other and are happy that we made it back okay. :) Once rested and ready to explore, our first day is always a stop at Cape Foulweather. A lovely little shop full of trinkets, mystery boxes and views that are incredible.
Time to visit the beaches we love. The Marine Gardens, where you can find shells, sea glass and the most incredible tide pools. Beverly Beach (where we used to camp in days gone by) where we now gather black cobbles, and fly our kites, and remember our little girls running in the sand. These wonderful wind sculptures are lovely to watch and I am lucky to have 3 of them in my own back yard. Depoe Bay is where we stay. The world's smallest harbor!
Time to relax. The leather chair the hubby and I "fight" over, since it is the perfect place to read and watch the sea. He does a jigsaw puzzle each year and I usually read and play house. I don't mind cooking so much with these views.
Headed to Florence, Or. where hubby had a huge treat and got to attend a Fly In/ Car Show. And I got to shop Old Town Florence. Another quaint town filled with shops and galleries and fresh crab. The drive is incredible along the winding Southern Coast, with sea views, sand dunes, lighthouses and flowering Sweet Peas and Fireweed. And each night we were rewarded with lovely sunsets. :)
