A lazy day.

I have my tea with honey and lemon by my side. My kitty is in the window, imagining all sorts of creatures are sneaking up on him (by the look in his eyes) and I am just doing the piddly little things that we have to do in order to survive in our world. Like pay the bills, figure the bank statement (this time, before the whole month passes by and the next one shows up!) put away the hubby's clean clothes and do some baking. I have had a craving for Angel Food Cake lately, and today I will satisfy that hunger. This may sound weird, but my favorite part of the cake is when it is cooling off, upside down. And it forms this layer of hard chewy sweet goodness on the bottom. Well, the cake won't sit right with it on (or at least that is what I tell myself), so I take a serrated knife and cut it all off and then proceed to eat it all up!....lol I have an incredible snack and the cake looks like no one has even looked at it, let alone ate the best part. :)
I am feeling alot better but will not push it. I will snuggle down with my new book (and a HUGE slice of that angel cake) and just - be. I have the whole house to myself for a few hours and I am relishing the quietness. No music, no TV, no talking; just peace. I feel my feathers unruffling, and it feels so good.

Looking forward to this evening.

I don't have to cook. It is chicken night! Ever since we moved back home to Montana, Friday nights have become "Double Front take-out chicken with a Movie" night. I love it. Something to look forward to during the week. A night where we jump in the Jeep, drive to our beautiful downtown (in the Christmas season it is especially pretty) pick up the hubbie's fav chicken, (since he was a little kid) and head home via Higgins Ave. On first Friday's it is packed with tons of people all doing the art gallery walk and sipping wine from little plastic cups . Sometimes if we are lucky, we spy our girls and do a lot of honking and waving, much to the chagrin of fellow walkees. We turn down 3rd Street, catching glimpses inside the fantastic bead store, Bathing Beauties and past a unique bakery in town, Bernices. Don't ya just love that name? My Mom's Day cake came from there one year and it was spectacular! Now,as we motor along, we try and remember where the kitty lives. You see, there is this cat who lives on the porch of his owners house (landlord probably said they couldn't have pets) and when it is the dead of winter, the porch is all lit up from the red glow of a heat lamp. Can you believe it? The cat has his own heat source. Now that is a nice set of parents. And I bet he stays pretty cozy too! In the old days we would get children friendy and short movies to eat by, but now that the girls are gone, we usually watch shows we have taped during the week. Such as Two and 1/2 Men, Survivor, and Deadliest Catch. So relaxing. No clean-up. And a great way to kick off the weekend.

I will Survive!

Slowly but surely I am on the mend. I still feel like I could fall asleep at the drop of a hat, coat and pair of shoes. But only one more work day to go and then not as much stress to deal with. Ya see, where I work, there are no subs available for nothing. And since I am the big kahuna, it, the one and only; unless I am dead, I really can't take time off. Besides, I do not want someone poking about my kitchen. I know, I know, not really good to work when I am sick, but I really think with all the precautions I take, I won't pass it on. Besides those kids are the probably the ones who gave it to me. It would be poetic justice!

Having a quiet nite on the computer. I do this silly little thing on Facebook called, "Lil Farm" where I get to garden and grow crops and design a farm and everything! It's fun and since I won't be gardening for real for about 4 more months, it keeps my mind off the fact that everything outside my window looks like it is dead. Well tonight, I am not sure what happened but I had harvested a crop of cabbages and all of a sudden it was like I won the lottery! The total amount of money in my "bank" was $216,000 dollars! Not at all what I should have gotten. I went out and refreshed the page and yep, it was still there. Hmmm, what to do. It's not like I can call the programmer up and say, "By the way, you overpaid me for my crops, can I give the money back?" So, I went shopping! I bought a huge house, and kept my smaller abode for a guest cottage, got a pond for my ducks, a tractor for the garden, a patio set, a new cart, fences and some hedges. It was such fun! And I still have $21, 000 left. What a hoot!
Speaking of Facebook. I know alot of people poo poo it. But I am amazed how many folks are on there. And it has been a great way for my family to keep up to date with each other. I just made "friends" with my late brother in laws mother who is in her 90's and who loves to play Wordscraper. I do too. So I set up two games with her, and she is holding her own and is as sharp as a tack. I think it is wonderful that this lady has learned how to do this and I look forward to getting to know her better. To my Facebook buddies out there, Good Night!

I Feel Like Poo!

Yep, the germs finally caught up with me (only took 2 years or so) and I am trying to be a good soldier. As my family will tell you, I do not do sick well....LOL I get huggy, and cranky and very whinny. Not my finest moments to be sure. A sore throat and a fever, not too bad. After work I went to the store for fortifications. A can of chicken noodle soup, a bag of apples (a little too late, don't ya think?) a glazed donut and a stinky bagel. Now, not only am I sick, but I smell like garlic. I looked for a new magazine but didn't find anything that spurred my interest. So I will be content with my new read, "Julie & Julia" (which I am enjoying alot!) and my TV. I have a new Masterpiece Theater presentation of "Emma" which looks good. Hubby is out tonight working on his car, so it will be peaceful, but no one will be able to hear my plea for more tissues and cups of tea! .......LOL I will Man Up and take care of it myself, and if I am a good girl, I just may have a slice of Apple Pie (that works the same as an apple a day, doesn't it?) :)

Football Heaven!

Yep, I am geared up and ready for the Championship games today. Do not call, do not visit, (or if you do, be prepared for my inattentiveness.....LOL ) I have got my snacks, my grape juice and my remote! Okay, for the first game, I am okay with either team winning. I love Sanchez and it would be such a thrill for the young man to go to his first Super Bowl in his rookie year. He is one class act. I have always loved Peyton Manning, but I was also very peeved when the Colts coach pulled the main players during a game and they lost their undefeated season. Bad move. Second game, that is a no-brainer: GO VIKINGS! Come on Favre, show those other teams what they could have had with you at the helm. Older can be better.....LOL

From yesterday's events, here are a couple of picts. Em's fancy Pinstripe Pretties and my awesome embroidery tote bag!

Sharing. Shopping. Snowing.

Oh, what a fun day! At first I was just going to stay home and work around the house, but I was rescued by a call from my youngest. Did I want to come to her house for some coffee and some chatting? Sure! And could we add in a trip to Shopko and could she wash her delicates in my new washer? Sure! I gathered up some tablecovers I had been saving for her (nothing like vintage tablecovers to brighten a kitchen) and a pair of pin striped high heels, her Daddy had done for her. Really nice and I could just see her on the dance floor in them. And one of a kind! Once there, she showed me her latest scrap book pages (pretty) and I got to visit with my Grand-cat, Bear, while sipping the most delicious coffee.

Onward to Shop! At Shopko we found an electric blanket and Valentine hearts, both on sale. Which then brought to mind, Valentine shower curtains (Em's latest want/need) and where could we find one? Why Target! Not only did we find a lovely one, but a new pillow for me and some scrapbooking supplies, really cheap. I needed some embroidery floss and some cloth, so Michaels was the next spot. While checking out, we found the cutest inexpensive tote bags for holding my embroidery projects and her scrapbooking supplies. We were so excited about them (only $1.99 each!) that the checkers couldn't help but laugh. After REI for gel for the hubby, we had to pick up some tacos, cause the energy level was dropping and home to eat and play on the computer.

And while this was all happening - it had started to snow! And it is still snowing, and that makes me very happy! As does spending the day with my baby. :)

I am totally spent.

Why is it when we experience emotional turmoil, that we get so tired afterward? I feel like I could use a nap, or a cup of coffee or a mindless game of Bricks Breaking....lol I am going to be totally worthless the rest of the day. The reason for my turmoil you ask? The afore mentioned graduation at my school. It was a wonderful affair and the kids are expected to give a little speech and they always thank us for changing their lives. Even their little ole lunch lady. When you hear your name and the child looks at you and thanks you from the bottom of her heart, for the smile she saw every morning, the piece of a favorite cake or just the fact that you were there every day for them, it makes you feel like you have done your job and made a difference. And a difference in a childs life is the best kind in the world. There were alot of tears, and hugs and I noticed alot of the students did not want to leave at the end. Staff all had red eyes, and were milling about, and it was hard to get back to the doing of the job. But my kitchen had to be cleaned, bookkeeping to be done, the orders had to be sent in. But for the rest of the day, I had a little smile on my face. How could you not, when you are told that you rock!

Sunshine! But snow coming?

I hope so! I would love to see the land covered in clean white. All our ice patches are getting a bit grubby and I keep tracking in mud all over my clean floors. Argh! Had a great day at work. Finally got my display case done. Had to hang a bunch of blue glittery snowflakes on white thread and by the time I was done, I think most of the glitter was on me....lol
I just SPARKLE today! I will try and remember to take a pict of it tomorrow to post. Now the cafeteria is all dressed in snowflakes and icy blue tablecovers. Looks pretty. And we have a new batch of kids starting on Tuesday, so I hope they like.

This is a bittersweet time of the year, we have about 25 kids who are graduating. Sad day tomorrow at the assembly for sure. I am soooo proud of them and happy to see them finish and get their diplomas, but I am already tearing up, just thinking of saying Goodbye. I get so attached and it is such a thrill to watch them go from an uncertain, scared teenager to a confident young adult.

Well, I am off to put another coat of paint on the inside of my cupboards. And I need to get the fixins' out to make up a meat loaf for dinner.

The Last of the Lights are now Down.

It is official. The Christmas season is over, I took down the last lights from the front bushes. I have enjoyed their little glow each night, but with the weather changing and it being almost warm today, I thought it would be a good idea. The sunshine felt really nice and I am not as productive as I could be. If I had a little solarium on the back of the house, I would probably be curled up with a book, sound asleep. :) But I have some tasks to do, so off I go.

A Nice Quiet Night.

Spending it with my sweetie and American Idol. I do not like some of the early shows, so I have my mute button ready at hand....LOL But I like to see some of the good singers that come out of the woodwork. I am always amazed that some people really think they can sing, when they really can't. I don't know how they can go so long with voice lessons, praise by teachers and family members, when they are so obviously without singing talent. I end up feeling so sorry for them and a bit embarrassed. For alot of these people, they really do have their hearts broken.

Made some yummy biscuits tonight and I have to admit, I ate 3 with butter and apricot jam. That was dinner....LOL Visited the library and picked up two new books and unloaded a box of magazines at their "swap" counter. Now I can settle in for the the next two weeks, with a warm throw, lots of tea and good reads!

Today I really feel like a Housewife!

Remember back when, the Carol Burnett show and her famous character the Charwoman? Well, that is just what I feel like today. I am spending my day off (MLK day) doing an early Spring Cleaning. The temp has risen to almost 40 degrees outside and my brain thinks it is time to clean the nest. I have vacuumed the whole house (do you know my machine can suck up whole packing peanuts?) got out the bucket and mop and did the basement floor and laundry room. Laid a new coat of paint inside my new cupboards and washed my rugs. The windows are all open and it smells fabulous in here, in spite of the Latex paint and Lysol scents....LOL On to the kitchen dishes and the bath and I am done. Yeah! A reward is definitely in order. Let's see, maybe a scoop of Black Cherry ice cream on a cone!

Coffee, and lots of it!

Just in from a wonderful lunch with my oldest. I was just about to put on my grungy clothes and head downstairs to open a can of paint, when the phone rang. The proverbial "saved by the bell".....LOL. She wanted to meet up at the Club and have a chat fest. We had a great time; she is doing great with her job and her training as a ski patrol EMT and just enjoying the life that I gave her. That is always the news that a Mom wants to hear. We want our children to do things they love and to be happy. That is all I ask of them. That and to watch my house and cat each summer while I party on the coast....LOL

Now home, I really need to get going on my projects. But I think with having such a full day yesterday, I am not really in the mood. But the endless cups of coffee will prevail, and I will get my butt out of this chair and complete at least 3 on my list. Maybe 4.

Way to go Minnesota Vikings! I am so thrilled for them, what a great team and tho I never used to be a Favre fan, he has alot of class and is having such a great year, I hope they do the job and go all the way to the Super Bowl. I taped the game and look forward to seeing the highlights tonight over dinner.

A Saturday!

So many possibilities. The whole day stretching out before me (well honestly, the afternoon stretching out before me; I slept in). I have my list, I am one for making lists. Need to, to keep all the ducks in a row. Okay, today's list reads, in order:

Vacuum, whole house (except attic)
Load car with boxes and exercycle
Run to Goodwill
Ace Hardware: paint and little buckets, and paint trays
Bank for hubby's allowance
Rosauers Store: to recycle plastic bags and
pick up hubby's favorite tea.
Watch playoff game at 2:30 and work on lunch
menu
Dinner? Maybe hot turkey sandwiches with mashed potatoes

We'll see how well I do today, cause at this time, it feels really good to just be dinking on the computer, sipping my hot tea and watching a little rain shower go by....LOL

Well, I did blast myself loose and off I went. Goodwill told me that they do not take exercise cycles any more, hmmmm, okay. Off to Ace Hardware, found a lot of little things I didn't realized I needed: yellow party bulbs (for the front porch), a can of Fusion paint to recoat my recycle containers to match my new laundry room, wood paneling cleaner and a cute little bucket for use at work. In blue. Got my paint, and at first the color was more like a robin's egg blue so they darkened it up for me to the turquoise I wanted.

Headed to the Bargain Corner to drop off the exercise cycle, hmmm, they do not take old ones either, suggested I take it to the recycling center for metal. Darn. I brought it home to sit in the alley and hope that someone comes across it before Monday, and just has to have it.....LOL And not only did I recycle my bags, but I treated myself to a donut and new Romantic Homes magazine and happily wandered home. I am now enjoying the first playoff game (Go New Orleans!) and the day has turned cloudy and cooler, so I am happy to be in my snug little home. Oh, and I don't have to cook tonight! I got a Make and Bake pizza to have during the next playoff game, my side has no sauce and lots of mushrooms! I can't wait.

Got Lunch?

I was looking at the mileage on my Jeep today. 38,000 miles, and it is only 5 years old. Now some of that can be attributed to approx. 2,000 miles each year to go to Oregon, and then of course there is some for doing errands and going to work, but I have figured that the rest of the miles can only be from weekly or sometimes bi-weekly or tri-weekly motoring/lunch trips with my youngest girl. And I love these trips! I pick her up from work, we decide; "will it be Tacos or burgers or maybe even just coffee". We grab our food, and then off we go! Up the Rattlesnake one day (looking for deer or our car chasing dogs), or let's go over to Blue Mountain. How about we tiddle around the University area and see what folks have planted in their gardens. Or over to Target or Shopko for holiday clearance (nice wreath) and we talk and talk and talk. And by the time we get back to her office, we have caught up on each other's lives and vented our vexations, and we feel so glad to have one another. Tis sweet!

A L-O-N-G 2 Hour Meeting.

That's what one needs, after a very long and hard day at work, to sit for 2 hours and hear folks crab about little tiny minuscule items that really do not mean anything in the large scope of the world! By the second hour my coffee had worn off, I was fidgeting like a pre-schooler and my stomach was starting to growl. Very audibly. The only saving grace, was seeing and sitting next to, a very dear and old friend. We had a lot of fun rolling our eyes and smacking each other on the leg. All I could think of was, wanting to be home sipping a hot cup of tea and enjoying this cloudy wintery day with a pan of cookies in the oven and my show "Larkrise to Candleford" on the TV. But all is not lost, that is what I will do tonight while the hubby is in Bonner working on his pet project. At least it is hump day, and I do not have any real plans for the rest of the week and I will be able to get over to the library for my latest book. I have been reading the series, Elm Creek Quilters and have on hold, The quilter's kitchen : an Elm Creek Quilts novel with recipes. I am enjoying these homey books and tho I have never quilted, this just may get me going on a project.

My Jeep was encased in ice!

Overnight we had freezing rain and the streets were a glaze. Got a call from my boss at 7:00 that the schools wouldn't start for 2 more hours. The buses had to wait for it to get above freezing. So I had an extra hour at home to putter around. Got quite a few chores done, and wrote some in my journal and had another hot cup of tea. I could get used to this! Rumor has it, we may be in for another night of ice. But right now the sun is shining and it is finally 39 degrees. Which means I can finally unhitch the rug that has been frozen to my front step for the past week.....LOL And make it across the lawn to fill the squirrel's feeder. They have been a bit unhappy with me and have voiced their low opinion at my front window. :)

Monday, January 11, 2010

Start of the new work week.

Back to work today, and all went well. We had a new pizza to serve and the kids went ga ga over them. Nice to see how much they appreciated the change and new flavors. Started my new display case, this one honoring the Vancouver Olympics (practically in my own back yard!) and I can't wait to get it completed. I have the snowflakes, the cotton batting, silver snowflake garland (yeah, for Christmas clearance) and the picts of Olympic sports. I want to fire up the teens to watch and cheer on the USA. The Olympics are HUGE in our family. Could be the fact that we are a "snow" state, and that we like winter sports or it is just that it is a great event that brightens up the dreary winter. We will all gather around the big screen and watch the Opening Ceremonies and you won't be able to hear yourself think when the US of A marches in!...LOL I asked my girls what kind of food we should eat (had Chinese at the last one) and they suggested Canadian Bacon and Beer! Hmmm, might have to do some more research on Canadian food.

Projects!

Well, I should get cracking and work on my latest project. I am painting the cupboards in my newly remodeled laundry room. (only 20 years in the making...LOL) and I have finally decided on - turquoise! Yep, it should really brighten up the space and with accents of lime green and brown, I think I will be pleased.

Sunny and Cold

What a gorgeous day! The sun is shining off Stuart Peak to the North of me and if I stand on the back step, pressed up against the door and face the sun, it actually feels warm....LOL Tho it is a measly 27 degrees. But I'm not complaining, it is an improvement from the -2 from the other night. Had a wonderful Saturday. Just hung out at home, created a big pot of Bean Soup, and baked brownies (from one of those layered jars, that I got from Christmas) and made Cinnamon Cookies. The house was a symphony of scents when my hubby came home.

I was in football playoff heaven all day and am eager to watch tonight's game. Tho I am skipping the Ravens game, since I do not like Ray Lewis. Just too puffed up about himself for me. My beloved Denver Broncos are alas not in contention anymore, so I am cheering on my next favorite, the Colts. Sounds fitting doesn't it.....LOL Glad to see the Jets made it in, loving that new quarterback, Sanchez. He's a talent!

Today's main project? To finally get my storage area organized and cleaned out. I have a few boxes of misc. to take to Goodwill this week and now that Christmas is officially put away, it is time to fine tune. This time of year is great for purging!

A New Year, A New Blog!

Well, this is new. Maybe it started with my hearing from an old friend who has a wonderful blog, or it could be the influence of just watching "Julie and Julia", (how many of us got bitten by that movie!?) or it may be because I have kept a private journal for 40 years and thought, hmmm, maybe it would be fun to branch out and put my thoughts in a different medium. Whatever the reason, I am going to give this method a try. I look at all your wondeful blogs and think, OMG, they look incredible. So bear with me, while I learn. And I hope you enjoy a little bit of Montana in the bargain. Thank you! Kit
